The bomb squad was called out to a Miami Gardens home Saturday after a grenade was found in a backyard on Northwest 48th Place near 178th Street.

Police say someone put the explosive device in the backyard to scare the people who live inside the home.

The discovery forced neighbors living in nearby homes to evacuate.

A man who lives next door but did not want to be identified described what happened.

"The neighbor assumed it was a toy and actually picked it up, then her son-in-law let her know it wasn't a toy and they called police," he said.

The Miami-Dade bomb squad was called in to detonate the device.

No one was injured and police are trying to determine how the device ended up in the backyard of the home where a 1-year-old child lives.
